Wii News || OFFICIAL: USA $250 Launch 19th November

That's two whole weeks before Japan! And £133! I reckon NOE will charge us £149.99 quite happily! Here's what Reggie had to say at the Official event in New York:

"Nintendo's Wii will officially launch in North and Latin America on November 19, 2006, at a price of US$249.99. The Wii console will be available in only the white variation at launch and will be bundled with Wii Sports, marking the first time a Nintendo console has included a game at launch since the SNES. Further, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Excite Truck will be available on day one, while approximately 30 games will launch by the end of 2006."

What a fantastic day! Get your import head on using the Google Ad's stores below - we've got ours booked from the states!

Square has announced what appears to be a spinoff to the PlayStation 2 "hit". I say "hit" because it's recieved a set of mixed reviews. However it's more support from Square so who can complain?

"Revenant Wings follows the story of Vaan. While details on the game are still scare, the latest issue of Japan's Shonen Jump magazine has offered up some interesting tidbits. Along with Vann, it appears that FFXII's Panello will also play a role in the game. Square Enix will reveal further information at the Tokyo Game Show."

It's not long now!

Cubed3 have put up the times for the conferences that are due to happen worldwide, note the times are GMT - I live in the UK!

The first one kicks off in less than two hours time! (at time of press) I'll be asleep but I can't wait to read all about it tomorrow morning!

- US Event: 1:00PM (Thursday) - 8:00PM (Thursday)

We should find out each countries respective pricing and release dates at each event. However I'm expecting the Japanese one to announce a worldwide (close to) simultaneous release! It would be good if each event has it's own little exclusive to show to make it worth waiting for the Friday event! What a way to spend a Friday afternoon, playing with the Wii.

There was a rumor going round yesterday that Lego Star Wars 2 for the GameCube had been cancelled, however Activision have put out a statement informing us otherwise:

Fantastic news, being that most small GAME shops have now stopped stocking any new GameCube stuff.

Wii News || 275 Quid Cheaper Than The PS3!

MCV have run an article claiming that they know what Nintendo are ready to announce next week, they reckon they know the date and the price of the Wii:

"Theres still a week to go until Nintendo officially announces the details of the Wii launch but MCV can reveal that the new console will hit retail by November 24th, it will be priced at £149 and stock will be plentiful."

MCV are an industry mag. I used to read it on my lunchbreak when I worked at Electronics Boutique back in the day, and I've never known them to make up a story. Everything fits into place and makes sense. A pricepoint similar to that of the GameCube when it launched, and a date that is often mentioned and close to Christmas.

The head honcho from Nintendo UK has stated that "they're [MCV] not far off, but they're definitely not right".

Wii News || First DS To Wii Link Up Title Revealed

We've only heard before of the DS using the Wii as a sort of hub, being able to download demos from the console as you would from the participating shop kiosks.

However as I've been reading this issue of NGamer, I've discovered that EA have confirmed that Spore will be linking both our fave consoles together:

"EA have confirmed that link-up play with the DS is on the cards, so you can deform your species on the fly."

Link up play could mean many things, I'm hoping for a feature that allows you to continue your game on the run as well as multiplayer possibilities. I don't really want to be able to unlock secrets again like we could with the GBA-GC connectivity. Who knows, if these features are considered then you may not even need a copy of the game on the DS? If a company like EA is developing titles like this, who knows what Nintendo have up their sleeves?

Wii News || Castlevania Producer Hints At Wii Development For The Future

Just a quick quote from Koji Igarashi taken from Nintendo Of Europe:

"We still can't think about anything other than this DS version because we are so busy, but of course we would like to think of something interesting and pleasant for Wii. I have some ideas for Castlevania for Wii"

It's all good! They seem to be happily developing these fantastic Castlevania titles for the DS and where else could they bring the series but the Wii?

Wii News || Exciting New Hardware Tidbits!

I've just been reading through some news in NGamer and they've got some cool information about the Wii-mote:

- The on-board memory which has been talked about before will be used to store character profiles, preferences as well as your personal scores and saves!
- The controller will not be getting a rechargable li-ion type of pack, simply 2 AA batteries.

The sensor bar:
- 50% smaller than originally shown, described as being the size of a couple of pencils.

I like the idea that I'll be able to take my own Wii-mote round my mates and not have to set up all of my control information every time! The size of the sensor bar never really interested me, so long as it doesn't get in the way of the telly I don't mind!
The launch day can't come quickly enough!

Nintendo Reaffirm Q4 Launch In Light Of Sony Delay

There's no problems for the upcoming launch of our fave system, the Wii. Nintendo released a statement today to calm all our worries (if anyone had any!) about Europe or anywhere else receiving their console this year:

“Wii is on track to ship in Q4, Nintendo plans to ship 6 million systems to retailers around the world between its launch in the fourth quarter of 2006 and the end of its fiscal year on March 31, 2007.”

Any Games Left On The Gamecube?

Not much!

Matt from IGN let slip that Super Paper Mario is making the move to the Wii:

"Hmm. How should I write this? Have to be vague, you know? Let me just say that yes, Paper Mario will be headed to Wii and not GameCube. Now read between the lines, damn you! Wait. That was a terrible hint! All right, that's it for today. Time to beat Bozon"

This doesn't shock or upset me at all. I've been really excited about the game and its style, if Nintendo believe that the Wii control scheme can benefit the title then so be it! For more information on Super Paper Mario check here at IGN's site. It looks so good!

Wii Sends Shares Rocketing - Nintendo Are BACK

Here's an image:

Nope doesn't make much sense to me either. But apparently Nintendo's stock is continuously on the up, apparently doubling from $13 to $26 in the past year with Merrill Lynch anticipating that the news and launch of the Wii will send the prices even higher!

Wii News || Mysterious Accessories Appear Online Including HD Cable

Several accessories have been found with a release date of November the 1st in the US from Gamestop with the most interesting being:

Wii Controller Glove for $9.99
Wii Premium HD Cable for $59.99

There's some other stuff like game cases, SD cards and protection kits, but what could the point of the HD cable be? Is it simply just an expensive set of HD component leads? And what is the glove?
Something similar in awe of the powerglove or just a rubbish gimmick so you can support your gaming stance?

Wii News || New Far Cry Information Reveals Control Scheme And More

Some new information has surfaced about the Wii version of Far Cry during the VGM Podcast where they spoke to a member of the development team at Ubisoft.

Some very interesting information was given, such as the plan to include full online multiplayer and downloadable content.

The control scheme involves interesting movement ideas like jumping with nunchuck simply by lifting it up, slashing the Wiimote to make a "feral attack" and pushing the nunchuck to hit enemies in the back!

You will also be able to move Wiimote forward to zoom and slash across screen for a knife attack. They didn't talk about how to use the guns though, but it's probably safe to assume it will follow the same mechanics as Metroid.

The employee also revealed that the title of the game will be Far Cry: Vengeance and will be a brand new title with 20+ hours of Single Player.

European Nintendo Fanboys Rejoice! PS3 Now Due 2007!

Yes it's good news for all Nintendo Fanboys (like us) who are almost safe in the knowledge that they will be playing with their Wii (something about that still doesn't sound right) this year, a good four months (at least) ahead of the Sony clan's new console.

Sony have announced that the PlayStation 3 will not be coming out in Europe until March 2007, it will however be released in the US and Japan this year as previously announced.

This will also give Microsoft another Christmas period ahead of the PlayStation, and with the many lovely titles coming out for the Wii it doesn't seem like it will be missed.

Here's the press release:

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Announces New March 2007 date for European Launch of PLAYSTATION 3
No change in launch date for Japan and North America

London, Wednesday 6 September 2006 - Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today announced that it would revise the launch date of its PLAYSTATION® 3 computer entertainment system in the PAL territories of Europe, Russia, Middle East, Africa and Australasia from 17th November 2006, as previously announced to March 2007.

Launch dates for Japan and North America will remain the same, which are November 11th and November 17th respectively.

The revision of the launch date in the SCEE territories is caused by the delay in the mass production schedule of the blue laser diode within the Sony Group, thus affecting the timely procurement of key components to be utilised in PLAYSTATION 3.

The previously announced PLAYSTATION 3 shipment forecast of 6 million units globally within the fiscal year ending 2007 is not changed.

Wii News || New Red Steel Video Reveals Jaw Dropping Action

Jeaux France have the latest video of Red Steel from the Leipzig Game Developers Conference and boy does it look great!

This build has been updated with incredible new graphics and a complete overhaul of the sword fighting system.
Now you actually control the sword, freely attacking or blocking your opponent.

Judging by this visual guide we're in for an amazing adventure against the Japanese Yakuza!

The video
shows some dude working his way through the familiar levels using a variety of weapons, and how they work. You can see him using the nunchuck to reload the shotgun, turning the Wiimote on it's side to aim the sub machine gun as well as standing up for the final intense sword fight!

DS News || Play-Yan Set For Europe Without Video Features

DS-X2 is reporting that the Nintendo brochure from the recent convention in Germany has a previously overlooked image of an MP3 cartridge for the GameBoy Advance and DS machines.

It looks to be an affordable utility that will allow you to play your audio on either hardware.

They report the following:

- For Nintendo DS (to be inserted into slot 2) and Game Boy Advance hardware
- To store music you need SD cards. Up to 2 GB cards are supported, this equals to 500 songs (best sound quality)
- Choose between different skins (including one with Mario)
- The interface shows all important information
- The unit itself features another headphone port
- The unit will cost 29.99 Euros
- May be released alongside the Opera Browser on October 6th

This sounds just like the Play-Yan unit (without the video playback features), which can still be bought from Japan from sites like Play-Asia for around £40.

Wii News || Fake IGN Article Claims Release Date And Price

A few people around the web are a little bit miffed today after David from WiiSource.com posted a fake article from IGN claiming the final release date and price of the Nintendo Wii.

The folks over at Game Caption have a screenshot of the post, it's pretty convincing stuff and a good prank. It goes to show how desperate people are to get these final pieces of information from Nintendo when something posted on a forum can turn into headline news in a day.

Even Club Skill couldn't act quickly enough to remove the post from their RSS feed. Roll on September 14th!

Wii News || Capcom Give Nintendo Another Exclusive

Dubbed "Resident Wii-vil" Capcom have confirmed that an exclusive Resident Evil title is in development for the Nintendo Wii. They have stated that it is not in fact the same title due to appear on the PS3 and XBox 360, Resident Evil 5.

Reports around the Internet suggest that the title will in fact take place between Code Veronica and Resident Evil 4, showcasing locations from all titles, featuring Jill Valentine and some innovative gameplay ideas...

"Biohazard : Umbrella Corp Chronicles and fills in the story on Umbrella before and leading to BH4. Gameplay is a mix between using the Wiimote as a light gun and BH4 style elements e.g. action buttons pressing X for a dramatic scene. It features scenarios from BH1 (museum), BH2 (police station), BH3 (raccoon city), BHCV and BH4 (village) and ties in the gaps especially BHCV and BH4. Characters include Chris/Claire, Leon/Ada, Jill / Carlos, Rebecca, Hunk and Wesker. There are two gameplay modes - scenario mode and arcade mode. Proper announcement to be made by Capcom at TGS"

Confusion surrounds the voice actress Tara Platt's involvement with fansite Resident Evil Horror stating her involvement and Kotaku claiming an email from the actress states that she does not know what Resident Evil franchise her character will in fact be starring in.

Wii News || Nintendo Dates Set For Worldwide Announcements

Finally!
Nintendo told us to wait until September for more information about the Wii and it looks like they're set to hold up to their promise.

Unfortunately we're not invited to the London press conference! But hey, we're only several hours old so we can't complain!

Dates confirmed by the big N for the three major territories:

Japan: 14th September 2006
USA: 14th September 2006
Europe (London): 15th September 2006

Focusing on the European event (as I am in the UK!) it's been noted from GamesIndustry.Biz that we can expect new software announcements as well as new information regarding the console itself. Whether or not these will be new after the Japanese and USA announcements have taken place remains to be seen.

Rumors from other sites also suggest Nintendo may "pull an Apple" and release the console the week commencing the 18th of September.

Yup! Another Nintendo News Site

Hi guys.

Just dropping a quick line to introduce myself, Carter. I'm the new owner of Nintendo-Centrum.com and hope to bring you a one stop news source for everything Nintendo.

I'm a long time Nintendo fan, I've been buying all their consoles since the NES came out, and will continue to do so - no matter how much they piss me off! I've written a little about what my fave's are and what I'm looking forward to, and in time I'm hoping I'll get to play the Wii!

So yeah, I'm just like the rest of you Nintendo nut bags out there trying to bring something in to the community. Hope you enjoy the site!
